History

A long history of distribution in Africa

Optorg has long been a recognized name in international trade, with nearly a century of experience in specialized distribution.

1919

Optorg is created by a major French textile company to expand its business in Russia and Asia. The name “Optorg” means “wholesaler” in Russian.

1920-1940

Optorg grows in Asia, expanding operations in China, Indochina, Singapore, Malaysia and elsewhere. Optorg was one of the top five trading companies in Indochina in the 1940s.

1947

Optorg moves into central Africa, acquiring a controlling interest in the trading company Société du Haut-Ogooué (S.H.O.), a dealer of industrial equipment, automobiles and hardware. S.H.O. owned the Tractafric brand, Caterpillar’s exclusive representative in central Africa since 1932.

1955

Optorg moves into West Africa, acquiring a controlling interest in Établissements Ch. Peyrissac, an automotive, cycle and motorcycle distributor and industrial equipment & hardware importer.

1963

Optorg strengthens its positions in Africa by incorporating local companies. Between 1965 and 1970, the revenue of its African subsidiaries grew 40%. Optorg pulls out of Asia due to the geopolitical upheaval in the region.

1993

Optorg becomes a subsidiary of ONA, the top private industrial and financial company in Morocco. Under the impetus of its new shareholder, Optorg actively takes a proactive approach to development, organizing its activities around two centers of expertise: industrial equipment distribution (Tractafric Equipment) and automobile distribution (Tractafric Motors).

2010

ONA merges with SNI, Morocco’s top private investment holding company.

2011

The Equipment and Motors departments are spun off into subsidiaries. Parent company Optorg sets a dual objective of internal and external growth.
